TAVISTOCK Ladies' hockey team set off at great pace and were awarded a penalty corner in the opening minutes. The ball was hit to Susannah Harland on the top of the circle, who struck it into the net.
Essanians responded swiftly with a solo run by Claire Poad who did a lovely strike over the keeper into the net.
Tavistock's second goal again came from a short corner. The ball was played to Susannah who slipped it to Steph Mills to fire into the back of the net.
Essanians were dangerous on the break and used their right winger effectively and again equalised.
Tavistock were soon in front again following a cross by Sue Cork, met by Judy Smallacombe who scored from the top of the circle. Essanians' continued to attack down the right and their pressure was rewarded by an equalising goal.
The second half saw Essanians go ahead with a goal that looked as though it was going wide but just hit the edge of the post and rebounded into the net.
They extended their lead with another goal that just squeezed in.
Essanians were awarded a further penalty corner and from it they scored again. It was struck straight at the goal and unfortunately flew up off a Tavistock stick over the head of the keeper into the net.
Tavistock were determined to even the score and were able to gain one more from a lovely hit into the circle by Laura Armstrong which was met by Louise Bott, who did a reverse stick flick into the net.
Tavistock return to league action on November 6.
