MARK Thomas makes a welcome return to Calstock Arts tomorrow (Friday) with his Trespass tour, after his provocative and hilarious sold-out performance in the village in 2013.
Expect the usual mix of stand-up, activism, a dash of journalism and a dollop of mayhem.
Mark is fondly referred to by the Metropolitan Police as ‘general rabble-rouser’ and ‘alleged’ comedian.
His radio and television appearances, multiple awards as well as packed audiences venues throughout the world will attest to both of those epithets. He played to full houses at the Edinburgh Fringe with this tour and Mark has recently returned from a tour of the States.
Trespass asks the question: ‘If the ramblers of the 1930s were here now, what would they do to open up the cities? How do we turn the skyscrapers and corporate squares into our playgrounds?’
Inspired by the mass trespass of Kinder Scout in 1932, Mark turns his eye to how the Government has sold off the majority of our communal spaces, from playing fields to public rights of way, setting out to try and carve a small space in the urban world where mischief and random chance can lurk.
The show is suitable for those aged 16 plus.
According to theatre publication Broadway Baby — ‘If you look up the word “raconteur” in the dictionary, I wouldn’t be surprised if you saw Mark Thomas smiling impishly out from the pages… Trespass is a great piece of feel-good stand up.’
