MORE time on the golf course beckons for Tavistock teacher Jenny Bryant, who retired from Tavistock Primary School last week after 19 years. Jenny, who previously taught at Mary Tavy Primary School for five years, was presented with a beautiful acer in a giant pot and received some precious books of messages from the children, before being given a celebratory trundle around the playground in a golf buggy. She said she was looking forward to more leisure time ? but held some ?very special? memories of her time at the primary school. She said: ?It?s been wonderful. When I first came we were still in the old school in Plymouth Road which was crumbling all around us, but it was full of wonderful artwork and everyone was so friendly. ?Then we watched the school here being refurbished and moved in and got settled ? I?ve got so many happy memories, including some wonderful school trips ? and two Ofsted inspections!? Jenny said she would miss the children ? and the fantastic school staff. ?It?s a real team effort here, it has to be for it to work, but everybody helps each other,? she said. While at the primary Jenny has run the recorder club and played the piano for school assemblies ? and 19 nativity plays down the years. A keen member of Tavistock Golf Club, she now aims to get her handicap down. ?I?m also going to be a granny in October, so I?ll be busy then ? I think my daughter timed it well,? she said. Headteacher Joe Flynn thanked Jenny for her love and care of the children she had taught during the past 19 years. ?I have only known Jenny for six of those years, but in that time she has been totally dependable, totally reliable and a real professional,? he said.
