RESURFACING works in Callington are currently underway, to improve a well-used road that was in a deteriorated state.
The entire length of Back Lane and Launceston Road, between the Back Lane junction and the South Hill Road junction, has been closed overnight — from 7pm to 7am — since Monday and is expected to continue until November 14.
At a meeting of Callington Town Council last week, councillors were aware that the noise may disrupt a few residents but were keen to stress the importance of the 'bigger picture' — a few days of disruption for an improved and more safe road.
Town Clerk Helen Dowdall said: 'It is a case of cracking a few eggs to make an omelette — there is going to be some disruption but that will be outweighed by the long-term benefit of a better road.'
Cllr Jeremy Gist said: 'Yes it is going to be an inconvenience but whatever direction you are going in Callington there has been an improvement in the roads.'
The diversion route will take traffic along the B3257 (Hingston Down) and the A390.
