TAVISTOCK Tennis Club results in week 4 of the league for the Tavistock Tennis Club were good overall for the men with four wins, two resounding, and one defeat. Results were disappointing for the ladies with two losses and one draw. The only planned junior C team match had to be postponed due to bad weather. Tavistock team: Roma McMahon/Melody Mason and Debbie Mayne/Sarah Lucas, a junior playing up in her first senior match who played well. C team lost 3-7 at home against Yelverton C. Tavistock team: Jane Colegate/Claudine Sparks and Babette Jackson/Liz Webb. Junior Philip Snell won the first stage of the ?Road to Wimbledon? tournament, a national event endorsed by the LTA, for U14s held at the club recently where there was a great turnout with 16 members participating. All matches were played over one set. Philip beat Ashley Clarke in the final, Ashley beat Charlie Bury in one semi final and Philip beat Tom Bury in the other. Philip will now go through to the county finals in July to be held at the Ivybridge Tennis Centre. The winners there go on to play at Wimbledon for the finals. Linden Hardisty, seeded fourth, reached the semi final of the British Open Men?s 35 and over singles tournament recently held at the West Hants Club Bournemouth where he came up against some strong opposition.
