OKEHAMPTON will be helping the cause to make poverty history next month. Every day 30,000 children are dying of extreme poverty, while 50 per cent of the world lives on £1 a day! People of all ages are dismayed about these facts and next month protesters are hoping to push the issue to the top of the political agenda. All over the country on July 2, people will be registering their support for the campaign. Those who can?t get to Edinburgh can still make their views known closer to home. They can: l Sign a postcard to send to 10 Downing Street asking the Prime Minister to use his influence at the G8 Summit to secure trade justice, bring debt relief and provide more aid l Buy FairTrade goods: just by buying a different brand of coffee you can affect the lives of some of the poorest people in the world l Pick up leaflets and information and pass the word to others If you want to find out more, come along to the centre of Okehampton on Saturday, July 2, from 10am onwards.
