Newtown thirds 4

Oke Argyle Res 3

OKEHAMPTON went to Newtown with a few new faces having called up some of the players who have done so well for the third team this season, all of whom acquitted themselves very well.

Playing into the wind in the first half the game started off bright for Argyle with some good short passing throughout the whole team and so very good work rate from the front two of Brad and Callum Ausden.

Against the run of play a Newtown midfielder drove a shot from 25 yards which gave the Oke keeper no chance. Shortly after they made it 2-0 when a free kick out wide was taken by the wind and looped over the keeper. Newtown started to pick up momentum and using the wind were playing the ball over the top for their strikers to run onto.

The Argyle defence of Aron Ditchburn, Mark Hampson, Rick Drew, and Rich Caron stood firm and were equal to everything thrown at them until the referee gave Newtown a penalty for a Rich Caron handball. The Newtown player duly put the ball into the back of the net.

Shortly after an Argyle claim that Callum Ausden was felled in the area was turned down by the ref, leaving Okey trailing 3-0 at half time.

The second half started brightly again for Argyle having hit the bar and post it took a screamer from Daniel Gibbs to pull one back for the visitors.

The joy did not last long though as Newtown broke straight after and made it 4-1. Shortly after Argyle brought Paul Yip.

Argyle won a corner after some more good work from Callum Ausden down the left. Using the wind to his advantage, Nic Pollard curled his kick into the top corner of the Newtown goal giving their keeper no chance and making it 4-2.

Brad Ausden then broke through the defence and made it 4-3. The visitors were now knocking on the Newtown door putting their defence under loads of pressure but to no avail.
