KELLY Choral Society gave audiences a performance of John Rutter's 'Requiem' at Tavistock Parish Church recently.

The society, led by musical director Andrew Wilson and organist Mary Mazur Park, presented the work to provide a fitting prelude to Holy Week.

Highlights of the performance were a soprano solo by Kate Walker, 'The Lord's My Shepherd' with an oboe solo by Leslie Mazur Park, and the choir's harmonies were well modulated in 'Out of the Deep'.

As this was not a long work, the first half of the evening consisted of several shorter pieces, including Haydn's 'The Heavens are Telling' performed by the choir, Kate Walker's rendition of an aria from Bach's St John Passion, Leslie Mazur Park's performance of Albinoni's oboe concerto with Mary at the organ, and the choir sang Handel's funeral anthem for Queen Caroline, 'Their Bodies are Buried in Peace'.
