TAVISTOCK Parish Church is this week gearing up for three special services at which the names will be read out of loved ones who have died.
These services are held around 'All Souls' Day' — November 2 — when churches across the world remember the recently departed, and those who are bereaved.
The first service is this Sunday, when a service of readings and music will be held at St Eustachius at 6pm. The service gives an opportunity to light a candle in memory of a loved one, and will be followed by tea and coffee in the church for those who would like to stay.
Next Wednesday, on All Souls' Day itself, services of holy communion will be held in the church at 10.30am and 7.30pm.
After the evening service, refreshments will be served for those who wish.
Churchwarden Cathy Sherlock said: 'If you would like the name of a loved one read out at one of these services, please let a sidesperson or minister know before the service begins.
'These are very comforting services. As the nights draw in, our losses may be felt all the more keenly — so these are important and wonderful opportunities for coming together and being reminded that absolutely nothing and no-one is lost to the care and merciful protection of God.'
All members of the local community are invited to these services, and will be extremely welcome.
