SIXTY years ago the decisive battle of El Alamein took place and 13,500 British and Allied troops lost their lives.
All of these were considerably younger than most of our MPs. Mr Blair, Mr Brown and all politicians are now reaping the benifits of that sacrifice and all would do well to make a point of studyng the poster issued by the National Pensioners? Convention to publicise the Rally in London on November 11.
It shows a war veteran holding his medals and the caption reads: ?60 years ago he thought his country was worth defending. Now his country thinks he is worth £75.50 a week?.
If it is decided that we should fight another war, present day forces should recognise the reward for any sacrifice they may have to make.
