AN elderly man who went missing in Tavistock has been found safe and well a week after he disappeared.

Leonard Walters sparked concern last week, when he failed to return to his home in Crownhill, Plymouth, after visiting Tavistock.

Mr Walters, 77, had been missing for a week, when a police appeal to find him succeeded. He was found on Monday, October 15, at around 12.45pm, walking along the riverbank in Tavistock. Mr Walters was cold, wet and hungry, and was taken to Tavistock Hospital. He was found to be otherwise well, and was collected and returned home by a relative.

Mr Walters is well-known in Tavistock and has friends and relatives in Hatherleigh, Mary Tavy, Bere Alston and Okehampton.

He suffers from high blood pressure and had no medication on him when he disappeared, which had intensified fears for his well-being.

He had last been seen outside Tavistock Post Office on Monday, October 8, at around 5pm. Earlier that day, he had caught a bus and was seen arriving at Tavistock bus station at 2.40pm, by a family friend.
