THE Tavistock telephone exchange with numbers starting 61 was upgraded to the faster ADSL Broadband internet service in May 2003 following a campaign from the Times Gazette newspaper.
However, nothing was done for the other exchange in the Tavistock area and Mary Tavy seems to have been forgotten about.
So far 62 households on the Mary Tavy telephone exchange with numbers starting 81 have registered for the faster ADSL Broadband internet service.
Can we call on the Times newspaper to support another campaign to get enough people in the Mary Tavy area to come forward and register for ADSL, please? After all, not everyone in the Tavistock district lives in the town centre!
The BT trigger level for enough people to register, which is needed for them to upgrade the 81 exchange as well as the 61 exchange is just 150 households.
So we only need 88 more computer users in Mary Tavy to register that they would be interested in Broadband. This does not commit anyone to anything and will make things much better for our community.
