'BRILLIANT' — that was the verdict following a highly successful weekend's activities on and by the water during Calstock's annual regatta.
Teams from seven clubs, including rowers from as far away as Penryn and Polperro, competed in some 30 races last Saturday and Sunday, with both children and adults taking part.
Nick Bradley of Calstock Rowing Club, which organises the event, said: 'It was a brilliant weekend, despite the weather not being very good, and we managed to raise loads of money towards a new flashboat for the youngsters — hopefully around £3,000.
'We also had one of the largest games of Pooh-sticks ever — more than 1,000 sticks were released, which was won by June Ingram of Calstock.'
The club members enjoyed a great weekend's rowing, with the youngsters showing great promise for the future, said Nick.
Top achievement of the weekend was by Leigh-Anne Alford, who came second in the ladies' pair paddling — a result which puts her second in the season's championships.
Nick paid tribute to everyone who had come along last weekend, took part, and helped organise an event which has been part of Calstock village life for more than 100 years.
