Okehampton Seconds 2
Witheridge 2
OKEHAMPTON, playing up the hill in the first half, did not produce many chances. Steve Williams and Ian Reddington always looked like they could cause the opposition's defence problems with their pace but it was Witheridge who had the better chances.
Okehampton's defence was rocked when Paul Adams hobbled off with a hamstring injury. He was replaced by Steve Harris
The second half started positively with Okehampton using the width of the pitch. Jerome Whatley and Paul Yip pushing down the flanks were a constant threat.
Okehampton were rewarded when a cross was played in at the back post and youth team debutant Graham Soby put in an aerial challenge. As the ball spun in the air Ian Reddington nodded home.
There was little reply at the other end and the middle pair of Jones and Voaden had the lions share of the play in the middle of the park.
The second goal came from superb play from Yip, down the right flank. He twisted and turned his marker and squared the ball back to Reddington who made it two.
With 25 minutes to go Okehampton sat back on the two-goal cushion and that's where it all went wrong. Witheridge pulled one back, and in the last minute a dubious challenge on keeper Pengelly saw the Witheridge striker score while sitting on the keeper. After much debate the goal was given. Okehampton must learn from their mistakes as this has happened two weeks running.
This week home to Newtown 3pm kick-off.
