OKEHAMPTON residents are being urged to make full use of the town's new recycling centre which West Devon Borough Council recently opened.
The new recycling centre at Merrivale Road, Exeter Road Industrial Estate, has been fully open since the start of August, with a large range of recycling facilities, and is open seven days per week.
Glass, textiles, newspaper, garden waste, cardboard, cans, metal, wood, plastic, DIY engine oil and car batteries are just some of the items which can be taken to the centre by householders for recycling.
Chris Chandler, borough senior waste management officer said: 'It is important that when people visit the site, the goods are left in the appropriate areas/containers to make the recycling process easier and more effective. It is hoped that the new site will make it simpler for people to sort and recycle their waste.'
The site also has a new information board which provides information and advice on recycling and waste.
The site has a target to recycle 60% of all household waste received during this financial year. 'It is hoped that householders visiting the site will use the recycling facilities to the fullest to ensure that maximum recycling levels can be achieved,' added Mr Chandler.
The centre's opening times are: Opening days, all year round (except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day); summer (Apr-Sept), Mon to Fri 8am–6pm, Sat and Sun, 10am–6pm; winter (Oct-Mar) Mon to Fri 8am–4.30pm, Sat and Sun, 10am–4.30pm.OKEHAMPTON residents are being urged to make full use of the town's new recycling centre which West Devon Borough Council recently opened.
