More than 1,500 exhibits of all shapes and sizes were judged on the sunny Saturday at The Village Green and the displays of fruit and vegetables, flowers, cookery, art, photography, handicrafts, beer and wine amazed the visitors.

The largest exhibit was deemed to be a wooden arm chair, the most unusual was a vase made from molten aluminium and the weirdest was a double cucumber.

The Prize Winner’s Cups were awarded by this year’s president Tim Lightfoot.

There were some successful exhibitors this year — Thomas Barriball for his fruit, vegetables, handicraft, cookery and recycled bird, bug and bee box won four cups. Other junior winners were Chloe Wallbutton, Orson, Zack Sleep and Bea Corner. Rob Babcock won three cups for his potatoes and vegetables and one for his beer, Philip Tournoff won two in the wine classes, Lorraine and Anthony Doige between them won seven cups including family with the most entries and Lyn Crawley won four including the most points in show and the Cornwall gold certificate of merit for best entry in fruit and vegetable classes for her rhubarb.

Record numbers of cream teas were served in the in the village hall, all served and prepared by volunteers.

The wide range of stalls to browse and variety of activities for the children meant that there was something for everyone.

A great night followed thanks to performers Jumping out Jazz, The Bang Twang Band, a Latino Dance Troop, a vocal performance by a 5-year-old girl, Happy Days, James Jack and Cornish Folk band Just Plain Myrtle.
