A CONCERT, performed by The Wurzels on Saturday, June 4, has raised £5,000 for two South West based charities.

The presentation of two cheques took place at The Oxenham Arms Hotel and Restaurant in South Zeal on July 6 to Children’s Hospice South West and South West Equine Protection.

The concert, described as ‘an outstanding success’, had an audience of nearly 500 people, who had a superb evening listening to The Wurzels and two other support bands — Two Doors Down from Cheriton Bishop and Calum Gibb from Okehampton.

The cheque presentation ceremony was attended by members of the two charities: Angela Hammond from Children’s Hospice South West; Maureen Rolls the founder of South West Equine Protection; and Lorraine Clarke charity manager. The event was sponsored by Okehampton Glass, Moorland Fuels Okehampton, BVS Vehicle Services Okehampton and Redrow Building Exeter.

Sponsors of the event in attendence were Trudy Ewen and Jo Burrow of Okehampton Glass Ltd and Josh Henthorne of Moorland Fuels Ltd.

Volunteers attending included Ursula Radford, Paul Bridgford, Paul Warne, Tony Bott, Steve Worley, Curley, Louise Pitts Tucker, Ailsa Gibb, Calum Gibb, and Ken Crawford. Lyn Powell expressed thanks to all those who bought tickets in advance for the event and attended, making The Wurzels welcome in Dartmoor.
