CARNIVAL revellers enjoyed another fantastic and successful night in Hatherleigh on Saturday evening. Fine weather meant that huge crowds lined the streets for Hatherleigh Carnival and created a wonderful atmosphere. The crowd was treated to a floodlit procession of 29 floats and numerous people dressed in costumes who made their way through the town. The procession was led by Hatherleigh Carnival Queen Lucy Wonnacott and Carnival Prince and Princess ? Amber Morris and Gregory Haste. Press secretaries for the carnival committee, Linda Wonnacott and Natalie Winser said: ?They looked amazing on their beautifully crafted crepe paper floats. ?The standard of tableauxs was extremely high and the Anstey and Stacey families from Hatherleigh were deemed overall winners with their Chinese Festival tableaux. ?Unfortunately, there was a problem with one of the tractors and the committee would like to apologise for the long gap in the middle of the procession. ?In a day when it is becoming harder and harder to run events such as carnivals, it is heartening to see so many entrants and spectators supporting the carnival and we would like to say a big thank you to everyone.? Profits from the event will go to the Devon Air Ambulance, Hatherleigh Brownies and other local charities.
