TAVISTOCK Cricket Club welcomed back one of its favourite sons in Steve Larder, who played for the club in the 1990s and captained the first XI. Steve's side, Bardwell CC, which he started, came down for a carnival weekend during Tavistock CC Real Ale festival. In a 20/20 game Tavistock batted first, with Sean Cleave leading the way, blazing a quick fire 52. Mark Webber 35 and Mike Morgan 20 supported well in a total of 174-8. This was always a stiff ask for the visitors and James McGahey's spell of 2 for 3 pegged Bardwell back. Steve Larder was in memorable form, taking 23 off John Rich's three overs. Bray and Coe were also sent to all parts, Larder was finally out, caught by a magnificent diving catch by James McGahey. Fletcher added 11 but the rest of the batting fell away to leave Bardwell on a respectable 151. The fancy dress worn by the tourers when they arrived was a memorable event, and the lady who looked twice did see Tweety Pie being stalked by Sylvester the Cat.
