POLICE have issued a warning to motorists in the Bere Alston area, following an increase in complaints about a lane in the area being used as a rat-run. PC Rick Hartigan said Trendle Lane had been no entry to vehicles other than for access for several years — but incidents of motorists using it as a short cut had increased in recent months and police were preparing to take a hard line with offenders. PC Hartigan, who is the neighbourhood beat officer for Bere Alston, said: 'We will be doing high-profile policing in the area over the next couple of weeks. People will be warned in the first instance and penalty tickets will be issued after that.' PC Hartigan said there had been accidents in the lane in the past and officers were keen to discourage motorists from using it.
