In division one of the Okehampton and district table tennis league North Wyke in their last match did well to beat Dartmoor Fringe 6-4, having lost in the first half 1-9. Raquel Garcia scored her first maximum ably supported by Andy Stone with two singles and joined Raquel in the doubles to beat Peter Richardson and Keith Smith in a hard fought five set win 8-11, 9-11, 11-8, 11-3, 11-9. Peter did well to win two singles and Moppett and Keith Smith one game each, Keith did well against Andy Stone just losing 13-11, 18-16, 7-11, 6-11, 11-9. League leaders Tavistock A raced away to a 6-0 lead against Bridestowe. Bridestowe's Mark Tancock saved the whitewash by beating Peter Hicks in straight sets, Tavistock went on to take the last two singles and the doubles for a convincing 9-1 win. Fred Phillips and Roger Bowkett scoring fine maximums to finish the league with 83 points. In the match between Okehampton A and Tavistock B, the A side raced into a 3-0 lead before Tavistock's Martin Fowler beat Tony Howick to make the score 3-1. Okehampton A won the next three before Tavistock pulled back the last two singles — Martin Fowler beating Frank Cockburn and Colin Brooker doing well to beat Barry Vaughan, to deny him his fifth maximum of the season. Barry Vaughan and Frank Cockburn had their revenge in the doubles beating Martin and Colin in a thrilling five leg win 8-11, 6-11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-9. to win the match 7-3 to keep them in second place in the final league table.
