A RAFT of teams will hopefully be taking to the water this July to raise funds for Okehampton-based RAPID-UK at the charity?s raft race. There will be two races taking place on the River Tamar on Sunday, July 3. The shorter race starts at Morwellham Quay and the longer race at Impham Meadows. The first group of rafts will set off from both venues at 4pm, both will finish at Calstock Jetty. RAPID-UK is delighted to announce that Alexis Bowater from Carlton Westcountry has agreed to start the race at Morwellham and later present the prizes at Calstock. Walrus Marine will again be the safety boats with the support of many other crafts. Organisers are offering a wide range of entry categories from the fastest raft, the best dressed crew, the most interesting rafts and the most technically innovative. Entries have already been received from teams in Cornwall, Somerset, Gloucestershire and Berkshire as well as from local teams. The last day RAPID-UK can receive entries is June 25. Regretfully no entries can be received on the day of the race itself. Meadowlands Swimming Pool in Tavistock are donating plastic tubs which can be used in raft construction. These will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Spectators will be able to enter Morwellham Quay for the start of the race and as a vantage point to watch the passing of rafts from the longer race, for a nominal fee of £1. Food at the Ship Inn, Morwellham will be available from 10.30am to 5.30pm. Entry forms can be obtained by sending an A4 sae to Mrs Geraldine Jury, 1 Station Cottage, Bridestowe, Okehampton, Devon, EX20 4HE. To find out more telephone 01837 861414 or 0777 3279125.
