TICKETS are due to go on sale soon for a major fundraising concert for Okehampton-based charity Rapid UK this summer. Twilight Music will take place outdoors at Crownhill Fort, Plymouth on July 7 from 6.30pm to 11pm. Acts taking part will include a Beatles and Neil Diamond tribute band and a host of local acts and the night will culminate in a spectacular firework display. Rapid UK operates in the UK and abroad in the search and rescue of casualties following major disasters. The charity, which is supported solely by donations from the public, is also involved in the training and development of local disaster management teams in areas of the world vulnerable to large-scale natural disasters. These teams are currently being set up in Columbia, Pakistan, Peru and India. Using specialist training, skills and expertise, Rapid's volunteers have to date attended earthquakes, floods and hurricanes in more than 24 countries around the world including the devastating earthquake in Pakistan in 2005 where the team pulled seven survivors from the rubble of a collapsed apartment building.
