THE OLD School Community Centre in Stoke Climsland has launched a membership drive to attract new interest and help fund ongoing maintenance costs.
Opened more than a decade ago, the old school, which is the village's former primary school, built in Victorian times, provides a wide variety of activities, services and events for the local community and beyond.
The centre is open to anyone but for £10 a year people can become a member and help keep the facility going into the future.
Membership secretary Vivienne Davis said fundraising was done through events but the costs of keeping an old building maintained were large.
'We have a brilliant facility here and can put on just about anything,' she said. 'We have 100 members at the moment but we would like to boost that. People who join are contributing to the upkeep and maintenance of the old school.'
Events in the old school include community lunches, film club, jazz club, village market, 16 special interest groups from yoga to French classes and a parent and toddler group, therapies from reflexology to Indian head massage, annual events for Burn's Night, Christmas and Valentine's etc and services such as free broadband access, a volunteer taxi service, lottery club and IT support.
The building, which boasts a kitchen and meeting rooms, is also available for hire for personal and business use.
