TAMAR Valley Marketing, a new initiative to raise awareness of the Tamar Valley, this week announced the appointment of its new marketing and public relations manager who will play a key role in promoting the area.

The two year project, funded by a £149,000 grant from the government's Phoenix Fund, will focus on tourism and wood-product businesses in the area.

Marianne Carpenter joins the project from strategic marketing agency Chalk and Ward in Exeter.

Marianne said: 'This project will provide a valuable boost to local small businesses in terms of providing business training and support, developing marketing skills, forming local co-operatives and by raising the profile of the Tamar Valley as a whole.

'I think the next two years will be a very exciting time for economic and skills development in the valley.'
