MORE than 400 young people were involved in a mass celebration of sport at the Caradon Youth Games competition held at Callington Community College last week. All secondary schools in the Caradon district were involved in the competition, the second of its kind. Sports included football, trampolining, badminton, table tennis, tennis and rowing, netball, tag rugby and girls? cricket and the games were sponsored by Caradon District Council. Cllr David Carter, Caradon?s ambassador for sport, said the council was proud to support the youth games, which played a major role in raising the profile of sport locally and highlighting the athletes of the future. The focus of the games was to celebrate local youth sport, citizenship and leadership. There were opportunities for young leaders from each of the schools to officiate during the games. Fair Play nominations were made in each of the nine activities and medals were presented on the new all weather pitch.
