FOLLOWING a year of hard work, effort and determination, the staff and committee at Okehampton?s Rainbow Pre-School are delighted to have been rewarded with a glowing Ofsted report. Rainbow Pre-School was particularly keen to improve on a disappointing report from the previous year to demonstrate the value of the service it provides to parents and young children. The report, following an inspection at the end of last term, upgrades Rainbow by two levels to ?Good? in both education and national standards areas. The inspection covers all aspects of a child?s development l Personal, social and emotional development l Communication, language and literacy l Mathematical development l Knowledge and understanding of the world l Physical development l Creative development. Playgroup leader Jane Heard and staff have worked hard to address the action points raised by Ofsted. The structure of the sessions has changed to bring them in line with national standards and a new policies book and prospectus have been drawn up. The report says the changes have helped the children work successfully to meet the Early Years Goals, set by the Office for Standards in Education. Jennifer Bourne, whose child attends Rainbow said: ?The variety Rainbow offers our son?s week is really good as he meets lots of additional friends and comes home telling us about the fun they all have together. ?We like the structure and diversity of the sessions and the way staff work with the children.? Rainbow Pre-School offers education for children aged from two-and-a-half years ? to be accompanied by a parent or carer until the age of three. Sessions run from 9am to 11.30am Monday to Friday during term time. Rainbow has some places available for the September intake.
