A PUBLIC meeting will be held at the Tamar Valley Centre on February 5 to discuss the proposed Bere Alston to Tavistock rail link.

Richard Burningham from the Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership will be at the meeting, which starts at 7.30pm, to talk about how the rail link will affect the Gunnislake to Bere Alston service.

Public information events about Devon County Council's proposals for the rail link are taking place in Tavistock and Bere Alston this week and this is an opportunity for the residents on the Cornish side of the Tamar Valley Line to have their say.

Calstock parish councillors are seeking assurance that the service will not deteriorate for the passengers at Gunnislake and Calstock should the new link go ahead.

Under the proposals, passengers on the Cornish side will change trains at Bere Alston to get to Plymouth.

Cllr Ian Kirk says it is vital that there are enough carriages to cater for all the passengers from Tavistock and Gunnislake and Calstock wanting to get to and from Plymouth at peak times.
