A WEST Devon student has been recognised for his creative talent by being nominated for a top national award.
Josh Andrews, 17, who hosts a weekly show on Hospital Radio Plymouth, has had his programme trailer shortlisted in the Best Station Promotion category of the 2010 Hospital Broadcasting Awards.
Tavistock College student Josh edited the trailer to promote his weekly programme to the children's wards at Derriford Hospital. The piece includes clips of interviews he has held with well-known characters such as Christopher Biggins and Joe Pasquale.
Josh said: 'I'm really pleased I've been nominated. I've had success before at these awards so its great that I've been recognised again. The trailer was a 30-second snippet of what you can expect from the show and will be judged by big people in the industry, so it'll be a good way to get my name out there.'
Hospital Radio Plymouth station manager Andrew Hill said: 'All our presenters are encouraged to do trailers to promote their shows. The one Josh did stood out and we decided to put it forward for this year's Hospital Broadcasting Awards. I am pleased to learn it has been shortlisted for the final ten.'
It is the second successive year Josh has been recognised at the awards, which are staged annually by the Hospital Broadcasting Association, an umbrella body representing more than 200 stations throughout the UK. In 2009, Josh was named the HBA Volunteer of the Year.
The results of this year's awards will be announced at a ceremony in Glasgow at the end of March.
Josh also works for Heart Radio at weekends, and hopes to pursue a career in radio after completing sixth form.
Hospital Radio Plymouth has also been shortlisted as Station of the Year for the third year in a row, winning the category in 2008 and runner up in 2009.
