RADIO Devon presenter Douglas Mounce will be in Northlew on Saturday July 29 to open the fete in aid of TUKAE ? a charity raising money for a remote and poverty stricken part of Tanzania. The fete is being jointly organised by the Anglican, Methodist and Roman Catholic Churches. Douglas Mounce is a regular broadcaster and can be heard on Sunday evenings on Radio Devon. He is also a well known traditional Dame in pantomime and this year will be starring at the Pavilions in Bournemouth. Three years ago the same fete raised £1,600 and was used to build education and health centres for some of the poorest people in this part of Africa. This year the event is to be held at 2.30pm in the gardens of Elmfield and will include all the usual stalls such as cakes, bric-a-brac, plants, books, groceries, household goods as well as home-made cream teas. Everyone from the village and beyond is invited to come and all help would be welcomed. Anyone with donations towards the stalls or with general offers of help are asked to contact the Rev John Peak, the Rev Stuart Wilson, Father Peter Morgan or Martin Perry on 01409 221376.
