A TALENTED performer from Milton Abbot has launched an appeal for help in making her dream of a dancing career come true.

Rachelle Glover, 18, successfully auditioned and secured a place at Stella Mann Dance College in Hampstead, London, but is desperately seeking sponsorship to complete the three year course.

?I have been singing and dancing since I was three years of age and have never wanted to do anything else,? said Rachelle. ?I consider myself to be a very determined person and I am totally dedicated to my chosen career,? she added.

Rachelle would like to work in the commercial side of dance, including television work. Her ultimate goal would be to secure a recording contract and make it onto Top of the Pops as part of a girl band.

Rachelle attended the Italia Conti associate school in Plymouth for three years, where she took classes in all aspects of the performing arts, while still studying at Tavistock College, where her favourite subject was drama.

The dance course which Rachelle started last September is a three-year performing and teachers course, which will give her a National Diploma Level 4 NVQ qualification.

Rachelle dances for up to nine hours a day on the course, as well as a studying movement and dance history.

?It?s going really well and I?m really enjoying it. I definitely want to stay there,? she said.

Rachelle won one of only 30 places on the National Diploma Music, Theatre and Dance course at the college, after being chosen from a shortlist of 400 hopefuls.

Dance Colleges are not recognised under the student grants system and so students often rely on raising funds through charities and sponsorship.

?I am having to finance myself in order to pay for the first year, and due to the cost of the fees of £7,500 per annum I will have no option but to leave at the end of year in July 2003, meaning I will not complete my three years of training,? said Rachelle.

Over the past two years, Rachelle?s experience includes: appearing on Model Behaviour on Channel 4, where she reached the final 16 in the Bristol heats; another modelling competition where she was chosen as ?Miss Plymouth Sound 2001? and appearing in a forthcoming episode of the BBC?s Down to Earth programme.
