A WORKSHOP for rappers and DJs is being held in Hatherleigh in the New Year. The Seize the Moment event for 11 to 19-year-olds will also feature a stencil art workshop during the day and an evening dance music event featuring TStyle. The event takes place in the town hall, Hatherleigh on Saturday, January 14, between noon and 5pm with the evening music event from 7pm to 9pm. Tickets are £2 to all. This will be the first event of the New Year for young people in Hatherleigh. The two new Hatherleigh Area Youth Project workers have now been in post since October. Every Thursday, youngsters meet in a rear function room at the Bridge Inn between 7pm and 9pm, to play music, have competitions and games and hold all sorts of other events with young people in mind. Youth worker Jane Bartlett said lots of activities have been suggested, including visits to live music events, surf schools and theme parties. She said the group plans to liaise with the town council to improve the Hatherleigh skate park in January and would like to hear from young skaters who wish to be involved. A youth committee of six young people from Hatherleigh has also been formed. The committee help to run a tuck shop and assist with planning events for the other members of the group. Jane and John Rutland, the two area youth workers, are always interested in hearing from new young people who would like to join in the activities. Jane added: ?We are hoping to start visiting the outlying communities in the New Year and would like to hear from any young people or youth leaders who would like us to visit. ?We are also open to suggestions from young people as to how we can improve their opportunities in the Hatherleigh area.?
