A PUB landlord was praised by firefighters after his prompt action saved a blaze spreading out of control at the Bullers Arms in Chagford.
The roof of the kitchen was severely damaged last Thursday after a pan caught alight and flames were sucked into the extractor fan, causing the roof timbers to burn.
Pub landlord Alex Duxbury managed to get two fire extinguishers down from the roof to put the majority of the fire out himself before the job was finished by crews from Chagford, Okehampton and Moretonhampstead.
Chagford station officer Kevin Coombe said once the firefighters arrived it took approximately 40 minutes to deal with the incident.
?We must give credit to the landlord who acted quickly ? ten minutes later and the blaze could have spread to the rest of the pub.
The fire started as breakfast was being prepared at 8.24am but with guests staying in separate accommodation from the pub, no-one had to be evacuated.
