OKEHAMPTON Rugby Club is delighted that international company Aggregate Industries UK Ltd has agreed to become its principal sponsor for this season.
The company, which has a local investment in Meldon Quarry, is also heavily involved with the hugely successful Leicester Rugby Club, with managing director Peter Tom being chairman.
It is hoped the Okehampton club will draw some inspiration from the connection with such famous associates: 'A proud moment indeed to pull on a jersey shirt bearing the same logo as players in perhaps what is the top side anywhere,' said club secretary Ted Cann.
Over its long history Okehampton Rugby Club has had close connections with Meldon Quarry — the club honours board shows some members of their staff who have become captains and others who have been true stalwarts of this family-orientated club.
'How proud some of them would have been to see Meldon and the rugby club representing the Okehampton community all over Devon and Cornwall where we play our games,' added Mr Cann.
'Sponsorship is now of prime importance in keeping amateur sport alive. Over recent years this club has had magnificent support and we would really struggle without it.
'The huge input we make in providing sport for the younger element is clearly recognised and as a club we sincerely thank all the sponsors for their generosity.'
