Kelly College 1st XI 4

Truro School 1st XI 0

KELLY enjoyed their first victory of the season last Wednesday.

The comprehensive win over Truro was a tribute to the quality of hockey produced. The first goal came in the opening ten minutes after Tom Unwin found the back of the net from a short corner.

The second followed quickly as Nick Boot-Handford delivered a powerful long corner, which was decisively converted by the talented new German right wing, Rouven Faasch.

The Truro centre forward was quick and skilful, but the defence held firm and goalkeeper Will Grainger, a Devon Under 21 player, dealt with any danger.

A third came just before half-time as Chris Anderson was rewarded for his tenacious scrapping at the keeper?s pads. Kelly dominated and created opportunities through good use of width and strong ball pace.

The final goal came after a nice piece of skill on the edge of the D from Nick Boot-Handford, another Devon Under 21 player, gave him space to release a venomous shot.

l TWO Kelly College students, Nick Boot-Handford and Will Grainger, aged 17 and 18 respectively, were selected to play hockey for Devon Under 21 in a recent four counties tournament held at Millfield School.

Both equipped themselves admirably with Will making several outstanding saves as goalkeeper and Nick narrowly missing out as Devon?s player of the tournament.

Devon played Cornwall, Avon and Gloucestershire and although remained unbeaten came second in the tournament so will not be progressing through to the next stage.
