LAMERTON Hunt Pony Club held their annual team show jumping competition at Duchy College on Saturday.
Teams from the south west competed for the trophies on a bitterly cold day and all showed excellent sportsmanship and a high standard.
In the junior section the North Cornwall team of Danielle Babb, Molly Trethewey, Emma Harris and Joseph Jackson-Galley triumphed with all four riders going clear over two different courses and then completing a fast double clear in the jump off. The Western branch came 2nd, a fair reward for travelling so far, East Cornwall came 3rd and Mid Devon, with Abi Colton, Ceri Knox, Lydia Svensson and Charlotte Rowe, came 4th. Fifth was the Dartmoor and Lamerton's home team of Harriet Kivell, Alice Warring and Rebecca Potter 6th.
In the senior section the competition was stiff, with many BSJA qualified ponies and riders. Ten teams, each of 3 or 4 riders, had to jump 2 different courses and those through with no faults had to put forward two riders each to compete in the jump off. At the end the Lamerton team, the Pearson Pearls, emerged the winners, with the added distinction of being the only team drawn from just one family — Rosie, Holly and Nathan Pearson, a remarkable result. The two Dartmoor teams came 2nd and 3rd, a good result showing strength in depth, with the Western 4th, East Cornwall 5th and South Pool 6th.
