OKEHAMPTON Town Council enjoyed a quick round of putting last week as they took on the Okehampton Ladies' Putting Club.
The council team, made up of Cllrs Weekes, Bickley, Morse, Leech, Vachon, Davies and Cummings, took on the ladies in the annual challenge at the putting green at Parklands Leisure Centre, with mayor McDonald captaining from the sidelines.
Each councillor was paired with a member of the ladies' team, with the overall scores tallied up to decide the winning team.
Speaking before the game, Cllr Paul Vachon was not too optimistic of the council's chances: 'This is pretty much the first time I've ever played golf or anything like it. I've played putting once, about thirty years ago!
'When I turned up I asked for my bat rather than a putter. I think that says it all! The ladies' team are all very good. We will have to see what happens!'
Perhaps unsur-
prisingly then, the council were resoundingly beaten, with Cllr Kay Bickley having enjoyed the afternoon's game despite the loss: 'The town council lost abysmally! I think we need to shake things up and get our practice in!
'It's a nice afternoon, and no-one takes it too seriously. I really enjoyed myself, and maybe next year we might fare a little better!'
