HATHERLEIGH is one of

only three locations in the South West chosen to host an unusual multi-media project as part of the 'Year of the Artist.'

Villages in Action Rural Young People's Project have teamed up with well known theatre company Forkbeard Fantasy to put on 'The Burglar Deterrent Experiment.'

Young people in Hatherleigh will work alongside the theatre company at their studio in Somerset on Saturday to build the high-tech interactive set

before installing it at

Hatherleigh Town Hall.

The public are being invited along on October 21 between 4pm and 6pm to play the part of the burglar and see if they can fool the burglar deterrent.

Project co-ordinator Claire Gladstone from WestDEN

Sustainable Communities said a mixture of high tech and low cunning by the 'burglar' would prevent the theft of a prize that would loose value the longer it remained unstolen.

'The large set which people will walk through will have electronic cameras and touch sensitive pads,' she said. 'It promises an enormous amount of fun and lots of surprises,' she said.

'It's a great chance for the young people to be involved in a very unusual arts project and they will learn about gadgets and set building.'

The event on October 21 is being sponsored by Hatherleigh Festival. Anyone who would like to join in with the construction should contact Claire Gladstone on 01837 811116.
