PLENTY of volunteering opportunities have been lined up by a new organisation which aims to encourage people over the age of 50 to donate their skills to the community.
West Devon animator Jo Winterburn, of the Experience Corps, works in partnership with charities and organisations to promote hundreds of opportunities for volunteers in the Tavistock area.
Currently she is looking for people to help market the Experience Corps itself and identify potential new partners.
Other opportunities include work with the Cinnamon Trust, which looks after pets when their owners are ill, the Save the Children Fund, which is looking for campaigners and fundraisers, and befriending work for the WRVS.
More examples are Oxfam in Tavistock, which needs someone with financial experience to help with book-keeping, Enterprise Plymouth, which is looking for individuals with management and business experience to act as mentors to small young businesses, and the chance to help with a bird survey in the Tavistock area.
Anyone interested in donating time to these organisations or who would like to find out more about volunteering in the Tavistock area can call Jo Winterburn on 01647 61252.
And Tavistock Volunteer Centre can also help with voluntary work ? whatever your age.
Staff at the centre in King Street offer a personal, face-to-face service and currently have more than 250 voluntary job opportunities on their books.
Call in between 10am and 2pm, Tuesdays to Fridays for a chat ? a booklet listing the type of volunteering opportunities is also available to take away. For more information, call 01822 618224 or e-mail [email protected]">[email protected]
