BUSINESSES in the Tavistock area did their bit to raise cash for charity on 'Purple Day' last week.

Purple Day is an event organised by Epilepsy Action. It began in 2008 and has since become the international day for epilepsy awareness.

Staff from Specsavers Opticians in Tavistock raised almost £170 and together cycled 125km all for Purple Day last Wednesday.

Donning their best purple, staff cycled on a static bike for the charity and sold delicious purple cupcakes to customers. Specsavers' directors also donated £1 from every eye test done on the day.

And at Camplehaye Residential Home, staff hosted an afternoon tea party and a purple raffle to raise money. Organisers said they were delighted with the success of the event, which raised £182 — £150 of which was collected by Chris Hall, who sported a purple 'Mohawk' for sponsorship.
