CHILDREN at Okehampton Primary School have wowed a planning officer from West Devon Borough Council with their plans for a brand new Okehampton.

Anna Henderson-Smith visited the school before the end of the spring term to look at an exhibition of work by Year 5 pupils for their geography project 'Our Planet Earth'.

When creating their designs, pupils considered renewable energy and sustainability, and the influences of natural landscape when developing a new town.

They interviewed members of the public asking for the positives and negatives of Okehampton, and made plans for a new version of the town.

Anna visited the school at the beginning of the project to offer planning tips on how to design a new town, and returned at the end of term to judge the final map designs and leaflets.

She eventually picked Aaron Neale as the overall winner, with his clever ideas for transport and energy clinching him first place.
