PUPILS at Meavy Primary School have compiled a booklet of their tsunami poems, to be sold in aid of the appeal. Headteacher Mary Williamson said the children had discussed ways in which they could help the people who suffered as a result of the disaster. ?They decided they wanted to find out more about the area, help others to learn more about the area and to raise money for the appeal,? she said. As a result, last Friday, was declared Tsunami Appeal Day. The oldest children, from Years 5 and 6, devised a service which they led in St Peter?s Church, Meavy, in the morning. Various facts about the affected area were presented, poems written by the children read and the children led the prayers. Mrs Williamson said the service was ?thought provoking and moving?. A collection was taken at the service to go to the appeal. The pupils? poems about the disaster and the aftermath have been gathered together into a £1 booklet, which is available from the school. The school took part in a non-uniform day, with children paying for the privilege of not wearing their uniforms. After school on the special day, the children, assisted by the PTA, held a bring and buy sale. By the end of the day £842.58 had been raised.
