PUPILS of Lady Modiford's Primary School will be purposefully pedalling this weekend in a sponsored bike ride to raise funds for new books.

The Walkhampton pupils, parents and staff will be cycling along the cycle path from Yelverton to Clearbrook and back as many times as possible, in order to raise money to buy much needed key stage one and key stage two reading books.

Secretary of the PTA Rachel Tyler said: 'The idea is for the children to ride to Clearbrook and back as many times as they can.

'There will be teachers at either end with stamps and children can total up their stamps at the end.

'The children have collected sponsorship money over the Easter holidays but there will be people with collection buckets too.

'We're hoping to raise as much as possible but we'd really like around £500. We've a very small library and we are in dire need of books for the children.'

The sponsored bike ride on Saturday April 24 starts at 9am from St Paul's Church car park and continue until noon.

Anyone visiting Yelverton on Saturday can cheer on the children and donate any spare change.
