PUPILS at Okehampton Primary School are getting involved with an exciting community event for the first time.

The inaugural Okehampton Lantern Procession is planned to take place on Thursday February 23. The project is being organised by the Okehampton-based folk and community arts charity Wren Music.

People of all ages will be able to take part, free of charge. Wren Music staff will be helping a wide range of community, school and family groups to make lanterns in the weeks leading up to the procession. One of the first workshops took place at the primary school on Tuesday.

Children from Key Stage 2 and their families took part in the first session, making lanterns from withies and tissue paper. Several more workshops are planned to encourage as many children as possible to take part. A series of workshops will be open to all in the February half-term week.
