MORE than a hundred pupils from South Tawton School donned colourful and comical hats as they took part in a special Walk to School day last Friday.
The idea was suggested by the school's personal, social and health education programme and parents took part, making sure children were safe along the route to school.
The themes of the hats worn by the youngsters included a bird's nest with a bird and egg, old boots, and football.
Everyone wearing a hat was presented with a certificate and there were small prizes for the best hats. In the infants section of the school, the prizes went to Emily Boother and Daniel Clinch. Senior section winners were Molly Bell and Buster Francis.
As a result of the successful walk to school, a 'walking bus' project is being investigated, with pick up points in Sticklepath, South Tawton and South Zeal. Parents interested in helping with the bus scheme should contact the school as soon as possible.
