PUPILS and staff from St Andrew's School, Buckland Monachorum have joined with thousands of other schools up and down the country in the world's largest children's Christmas project, by packing and sending shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child.

The school's effort was in aid of the annual appeal through Tavistock Methodist Church and organised by the Samaritans' Purse Charity.

Last year more than 1.3-million shoeboxes were delivered to children across the world.

Deputy headteacher Justin Jones said: 'We wanted to teach children about generosity and compassion whilst providing the children with the opportunities to reflect on the contrasting lives of children from poorer countries.'
