PUPILS at Chagford Primary School sounded a musical note of best wishes to mark the retirement of music teacher Dennis Clayson.

The part-time teacher is retiring after 23 years at the primary during which he has successfully maintained a school wind band.

Numbers in the band have ranged from 11 to 29 and one of its former members who played the French horn has stayed in the world of music, becoming an opera singer.

Mr Clayson was presented with many gifts. The pupils also collected among themselves and bought him a set of glasses with a musical theme.
