TEN members of Millennium Schools of Martial Arts including those from Tavistock and Okehampton enjoyed excellent results at the PUMA Southern Championships and had fantastic results. Only three of these had competed before so nerves were high. Instructor Merwyn Davis said: 'Championships are split into junior and senior categories, and feature events such as high kick, destruction, sparring and patterns. Children as young as four could compete. It was a fantastic day and the standard was very high, the juniors that competed all received a medal for their efforts.' The big successes of the day went to Beth Thornton (Tavistock) who received a silver medal in sparring in her first tournament, narrowly missing out on the title, and Lloyd Mudie (Launceston) who achieved a gold medal in sparring, making that the second year running and still holding the title of Southern Champion! Some of those who competed are featured in the picture above on the front row: Lloyd Mudie, Aaron Jago (Tavistock), Ellsie Hutt (Okehampton), Tate Budge (Tavistock) and Beth Thornton.
