Tavistock Pumas 0

Porkers 1

THE Pumas ? Tavistock Mixed 1st XI ? played their first league match of hockey?s summer season.

The Pumas made some strong tackles and were making the opposition work hard to break through into the attacking area. The quickness of Fiona Dunn and Susannah Boulle made life difficult for the opposition on the left and when Porkers realised this they started to move the ball over to the right.

Laura Stapleton worked hard to mark her player and prevented any major attack. The odd time Porkers broke through, Kevin Lethbridge cleared the ball with skill and ease.

Tavistock were missing that finishing touch and despite the ball being worked between Barratt, Emma White and Jo Gaspar, the team could just not find a way into the D.

Way created space and drove the ball up to a running Thomas Honey and Tavistock were awarded a short corner. But it was not used to advantage.

Goalkeeper James Pitts gave some excellent calls and really commanded the D.

The second half saw Pumas trying to push the ball up into the attacking area. Defensively the team kept strong with Lethbridge, Dunn and Brian Rodda formidable.

Honey was moved into the middle in order to create more action but it was difficult as the opposition used a five-man team and passed the ball between these players.

Porkers took the lead with a soft goal through some hustle and bustle in the D.

Pumas went on the attack and Dunn, Boulle and Lethbridge kept solid, allowing the rest of the team to push up into the attacking area. Barratt and White fed some good balls into the D but on this occasion it was not meant to happen.

Tavistock: James Pitts, Kevin Lethbridge, Fiona Dunn, Brian Rodda, Susannah Boulle, Laura Stapleton, Matt Way, John Barratt, Emma White, Jo Gaspar, Thomas Honey.

The next match is on Wednesday May 19, 8.15pm at Marjons.
