A FUNDRAISING campaign is under way in Princetown at the moment, with the aim of making the winter months more pleasant for the users of Princetown United Church.

A new heating system for the church will also help make the building more environmentally friendly — but could cost in the region of £8,500.

In order to raise funds members of the church have got together and organised many events and activities over the next few months.

So far almost £500 has been raised since the end of May by the church holding car boot sales and a sponsored dog walk.

Events have included a table top sale at the church hall at the end of September and a beetle drive and chilli night at the church hall on Saturday, October 18.

A nativity scene festival in mid December is an event the church is hoping all local primary schools will want to get involved in by making nativity scenes.

Dawn Wood, steward and fundraiser from the church said: 'The most exciting thing we have coming up is our Christmas medieval mystery play entitled "On a Cold Winter's Night", the story of Christmas inspired by medieval mystery plays.

'We had a get together on September 30 at Princetown United Church to find people who wished to either act talking parts or just crowd scenes, help with costumes or behind the scenes in other roles.'

Rehearsals for the play start in October, and the shows will be staged at St Michaels and All Angels Church in Princetown on Friday, December 12 and Saturday, December 13, times to be arranged.
